Yearless birthdates

Folks,

I am trying to create a database for tracking birthdays. Don't have the
birth year for the vast majority of these, just the month and day.

I could create separate fields for the month and the day (and the year for
those that are known), but creating one field is more attractive. I will be
wanting to sort by the birthdays eventually. Is this doable?

I think it would be neater if you still separate the 3 numbers into 3
separate fields and create a query that builds a birthday with month and
day. You then sort the birthdays in the query.

Harry,

You could use an update query and set the year for the BDs where you don't have
a year to 1900. Then you could use a Date/Time field to record the BDs. To sort
the BDs by mont you could use the Month function and to sort the BDs in a
specific month you could use the Day function.

Herb and PC,

Thanks for your input. Decided to use a combination of your suggestions.
Made three fields for each birthday. Set the default entry in year to 1900.
Made a query to sort by the month then the day. Seems to be working OK.
Thanks again.
