Before conversion, perform these steps using your old version of Access.

1. Make a backup copy.

2. If you see an LDB file in the same folder as your database, delete it.

3. Compact the database to get rid of any temp objects: Tools | Database
Utilities | Compact.

4. Decompile by entering this into a command prompt while Access is not
running. (It's one line, and include the quotes.)
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft office\office\msaccess.exe" /decompile
"c:\My Documents\MyDatabase.mdb"

5. Compact again to get rid of the junk left after decompile.

6. Open the database. Open a code window. Remove any references you do not
need. If this is Access 97, you probably need the Access, VBA and DAO
libraries. More info:

7. Compile (Debug menu from a code window).

You should now be able to convert.
