how to record invoice printed

An app I am working on produces invoices between two dates, either for a
selected customer or all, with transactions in the date range.

I need to record that an invoice has been produced and, subsequently paid.

Is it better to have a separate table recording this or yes/ no and date fields
against each transaction ? What is the best point to fire the routine?. On
print could fail if there was a printer problem.

TIA

I think it's Trevor (or was it Tutle?) that has this one down... I
think he asks the user if all the invoices print correctly, and then
if the user chooses yes, then he writes a record for each invoice.
