Find Front End

P: n/a
I have an app being used by 64 users over a network. The back end
resides on one of the servers and each user has their own frontend.
The latest version has coding to prevent the app being used if the
version does not match with the backend. Unfortunatley, the original
app had no coding for Version number and can still be used.

Most of the staff did as they were instructed and left the front end
on their desktops. When I issued the 2nd version (containing the
version number coding) it first killed the original version.

Unfortunatley, some of the staff have moved the front end and created
a shortcut on the desktop. It could have been moved anywhere! There
are C and D drives (harddrives) on each machine and H, J, P & R
network drives. Assuming they haven't renamed the original, does
anyone know how to search through each drive and delete any instance
of the original app?

Additionally, what do you use as standard on all apps? (i.e.
version numbering, check to see if app already open etc etc)

Thanks to all who have helped me over the last 12 months (both
directly and by previous posts!) have a good Christmas/New
Year/Holiday!

Front end files have information inside them about the location of the back
end, but the reverse is not true.

You could issue yet another new front end that links to the same back end,
but with a different name or location. The old front ends would then stop
working because they would still be looking for the old name/location.
