Access 2000 Missing Wizards

Hi all,

I've just upgraded to Access 2000 and it seems that all the wizards do
not work. I get error messages saying that they are not installed.

I've already done the following:

1. Uninstalled and re-installed
2. Checked for presence of acwzmain.mde and acwztool.mde
3. re-registered the dao files
4. uninstalled, deleted old files and registry entries, and
re-installed. I didn't do this thoroughly though; I know Office leaves
a lot of other junk behind which I must have missed.

Anyone know of a quick fix for this one? It seems to be a known
problem that's been around since Office95.

The problem persists for both new and old databases and it's driving
me nuts...I don't want to have to go through my HDD and registry with
a fine tooth comb just to get it to work!

Well...here I am, still stuck without a solution. I know it's a known
issue but what's the known solution? I've tried going through MS's
website and followed the instructions in the various tech support
articles there with no luck. Maybe I just need one last handy tip?

Argh...work has come to a standstill since I "up"graded to 2000. :-(
Office 97 was nice and stable!

Thanks Tony. I don't suppose you'd know anything about the original
issue regarding the wizards? I've ploughed through the MS tech support
articles with no luck.

I went to http://groups.google.com, selected Advanced search, entered
Missing Wizards for locating words and comp.databases.ms-access for the
newsgroup. One of the many articles is below.

If your wizards turn up missing, don't worry. Microsoft has
confirmed that there's a problem with the Access 2000 wizards.
Your first step is to see if they're really missing. Check your
system
for the following two files: acwzmain.mde and acwztool.mde. If you
don't find either file, you can copy it from the Office 2000 CD. To
do so, insert your Office or Access CD and open the folder
Pfiles\Msoffice\Office\1033
You'll find both .mde files in this folder. Simply copy them both to
the same folder in which you installed Office 2000 (the default
folder is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office).

After copying the files, restart Access and try to use a wizard.
Access may have to install the wizard first, but once that's done,
the
wizard should work fine. For more information, review the support

I recall that if you use the shortcut generated by the install program
the wizard will not work. Try creating the shortcuts manually or
executing the exe manually.

I believe the service pack addresses this issue.

Thanks, those suggestions didn't work either. I tried SP3 too to no
avail. But in the end I fixed it by following instructions in a tech
support document for the same problem in Office97(go figure). Thanks
everyone for trying to help!
