Access 2000 Distributing

Any help would be grateful :-)

Problem:
When I test my installation of Access 2000 MDE, I get the following
error: "Unrecognised Format".. This means that Access 97 cannot read
Access 2000. But I was under the Impression that Access 2000, could
be redistributed using Install Shield 7 and that it would not effect
the workstations current status.

My Current senario is:
I have created an Access 2000 MDE File and I am trying to redistribute
this APP using Install Shield 7.

Inside Install Shield 7, I have chosen Access 2000 and DAO 3.6 options
within the Merge File Section.

When selecting Access 2000 a wizard appears and asks for the "Windows
Installer". I have entered the following:
C:\Windows Installer PAckage\MSOWC.MSI...........< This file was
retrieved from the Office 2000 set-up disks.

One Problem:
The installation of this APP needs to take into account my customers
workstations which have Access 97 installed. I cannot afford for
there set-ups to be altered.

Thank-you in advance.

You say nothing about distributing the Access 2000 Runtime support along
with your MDE. I trust you are not operating under the erroneous impression
that an MDE is a standalone executable -- it certainly is not. You must
license the Office 2000 Developer Edition to have the right to redistribute
the runtime support.

Alternatively, you could save your database in Access 97 format from Access
2000, but that only works for .MDB, not for .MDE. Sorry.

I don't think that Access is backwards compatable. Maybe you should
try to build it in 97 and distribute it that way or use Office
developer to package and include the runtime so that it would not
matter what version of Access they had or would not matter if they had
access at all.
