version?

What is the current recommended version of Access to use when starting
a new project? I did a bunch of work in the W98 version, and
currently have 2000. I am being asked to "rough out" a system for a
non-profit so there is really no money, but any excuse is sufficient
to buy new toys….....Is 2003 OK or should I get the XP?

On a perhaps heretical note, does anyone have any thoughts on DATAFLEX
or any other system? I did a nice project with this in the DOS days
and they are still around…....
Thanks, Jon

Dataflex was great in its time. But it was not based on SQL (then). IMO, it
is well worth using a front-end product that supports SQL, since SQL is the
data access language of so many back-end databases. (And of course, Access
will front-end to those other databases; Dataflex will not, AFAIK.)

Access 2.0 and Access 97 are reliable, stable versions that work with
current 32-bit Windows operating systems. Both are "out of support", so you
can't get "official support" from Microsoft Tech Support. Then again -- when
was the last time that you called Microsoft for Tech Support?

From my personal experience, I'd suggest either Access 2002 or 2003 over
Access 2000. I've had no particular problems with either Access 2002 or
2003, but have not given the new "integration" and "workgroup" features a
hard workout.
