tracking dates

Jim
Hi, I'm writing an app to track when employees sign an out of work
list. I have created an EmpInfo table, a SignIn table and two looklup
tables for assignments and contractors. My SignIn table has fields for
SignInDate, EmpTicketNumber, Status(U or E), AssignID, ContrID,
StartDate, TermDate and ReferralDate. I'm not sure if this table
design is correct. The fiuelds for ContrID and AssignID may or may not
have data, although I could require that if they don't have data for
the field they must enter TBD or something. They sign every Mon and
eventually receive an assignment. When they receive an assignment I
want the user to enter the StartDate and using a combo box they need
to change Status to E. When the employee comes back to sign the list
again the user needs to enter the TermDate. Using this data how can I
determine the First Date signed, last date signed and amount of time
between the first date signed and the date they received an
assignment? I'm not sure if I'm making this harder than it is or my
table design is in error. Has anyone done something this and if so,
can they point me in the right direction?
Thanks Jim
