Error importing Spreadsheet under Win NT, Okay under Win 2K

I am trying to import a protected spreadsheet to an access database, I
have 2 machines one running Win 2K and one running NT 4.

It works fine on the 2K machine but when I try to import on the NT box
I get Access Error 3247: external table is not in the expected format.

If I remove the Protection from the sheets it imports fine as well,
but the sheets have to be protected

Both have Excel and Access 2000 installed.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance
