access 97: append query or an update query advice

P: n/a
hi

i need some advice on whether if it would be better to use an append
query or an update query. here is the situation, i have linked another
database table to my current database. then i created a query for the
linked database but eventually i need to have this query to be
constantly updated and append to another table in the current
database. i hope i'm not too vague but i have no idea if i should use
an update or an append query. should i even bother with these queries
and wrote a function with sql to refresh the tables or query defined
tables?

thanks - jung

An update query modifies records already in the table whereas an append query
adds new records. Sounds like you need the latter.

I'm confused. You don't "constantly update" a query. A query is a
view of data contained in one or more tables. Updating table data
makes sense. But append queries copy data from one table to another.
Updating the data changes data in a table... no moving data involved.
So what is your question? Do you need snapshots of data or something?
Why don't you explain in business terms what you're trying to do, and
you might get a better answer.
