Pass parameter in subquery

Hi,

I have a table for Orders with fields :
order_id order_date order_amount

is there a way to create a query that retrieves all the records in the
Orders table with a column that contains the sum of order_amount up to
the date of each row.

For example if the data in the Orders table is:
order_id order_date order_amount
1 1/1/2003 5
2 2/1/2003 5
3 3/1/2003 5

the query should return:

order_id order_date order_amount order_sum
1 1/1/2003 5 5
2 2/1/2003 5 10
3 3/1/2003 5 15

I tried the query:

SELECT Orders.order_date AS D1, Orders.order_splid,
Orders.order_amount, (SELECT Sum(Orders.order_amount) AS total FROM
(SELECT * FROM Orders where (order_date <D1))
GROUP BY Orders.order_splid
) AS order_amount
FROM Orders;

order_splid is the foreign key to the suppliers table

thank you in advance for any help
