Button colours

There has been a lot of discussion about the possibility to change the
backgroundcolour of buttons.

Lot's of people are referring to lebans homepage.
But there is actually an easy way to do it !!!!!

Valid for XP (and maybe 2000 . have not checket this).

Look at the Toolbox. the one where you can choose different elements like
e.g.
buttons, comboboxes etc.
There is a kind of arrow where you can choose many more.

Scroll down . and find Microsoft Forms 2.0 Commandbutton.

The only bit annoying part is that it is not extreemly easy to pick the
backgroundcolour.

If I want the backgroundcolour yellow, I usually do this by making a normal
unbound field first..

Here it is easy to change the colour ... and Access writes a number
representing the colour (e.g. 8454143 for yellow).
This I simply copy to the backgroundcolour property of the button.
Hope it made sense.

This places an activeX control
Does it have all of the same event driven functions as a normal button?
Is there and documentation for this activeX control?

There is yet another way to have coloured buttons, without ActiveX
controls that may or may not exist on user's computer:

1. create a label of the same size as the command button

2. set the background color of the label to your wish

3. set the Special Effect property to Raised

4. Send to Back using the Format menu

5. Place the command button onto the label

6. Set the Transparent property of the button to Yes

Run the form.

For those that want the fake 'button' to have the same look and feel
like a real one, use the MouseDown and MouseUp events of the transparent
button to set the Special Effect of the label to Sunken and Raised
respectively.

There are several issues with using the Forms 2 controls that disuade
the majority of developers from using them.

1) There are many compatibility issues with using these controls on
Access Forms.

2) The Forms 2 DLL is not freely redistributable

3) ActiveX control's in general open the door to DLL hell at
distribution time

All of the above reasons are why I produced the Colored CommandButton
solution on my site. It is very easy to use and does not require an
external ActiveX control.
