linking a query like a table

Hi there,

is there a way to link an Access XP database to a query in a different
database (Access XP as well) like you can do with tables?

My front ends need to operate on different data segments on one database
and I would like to get around modifying them..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the other db can make views - make the query a view and AccXP will
"see" it as a table and can, therefore, link to it.

Hi MG,

thanks for the reply, but you got me a bit dumbfounded here..
I thought queries in Access XP _were_ what other databases
call views.. (The data resides in an Access XP database as well)

Am I overlooking something here?

Thanks again,

Joerg

Depends, if a query is a SELECT query, then, yes it can work as a
View. But, in Access, the term "query" also describes INSERT, UPDATE
and DELETE actions. All are referred to as queries.

Ah... I didn't see, in your 1st post, that you were trying to get data
from a query in another Access db. If both XP dbs are .mdb or .mde
files you can use the other query like this:

SELECT * FROM tblOtherTable In "c:\myDocs\OtherDB.mdb"

If the other db is an .adp file you can link to the "View" as if it
were a table (I believe - I don't do this much. I always use DAO pass
thru queries).
