Hi,

Can you point me in the way off a good book or online tutorial covering the
following scenario.

I compile results for a couple of cycling club race series

I've a tblRIDERS ( 100 + ) primary field is based on the surname/forename
I.E. John Smith = smithj.

I've a tblEVENTS which hold the 12 races details primary field autonumber
1 - 12 straight forward. Round 1 = Event 1

I've a tblCLUBS holds details of the Riders Club.

Problem that I got is how to link these to a form for entering results and
generate a new DB or amend tblRESULTS ( not currently created ) the idea is
to use tblRIDERS has a look up table - I.E. enter primary field smithj which
them populates with the correct rider and club details. Then I add the
following.
Race Finishing position, Their Race Number, which event and points scored.

Then once to season is finished only the best 8/12 results count as long has
they have ridden once after XMAS.

Regards
Ram.

Surname/forname is not good for a primary key.

What happens when you get a second J Smith?!

tblClub--<1,M>--tblRiders--<1,M>-RiderEvent--<M,1>--tblEvents(RoundNo,EventNo)

Then Time or whatever would be a field in RiderEvent (one rider taking
part in one event.)

I add a 1 to it smithj1
the reason I want to use the above format is to pull data from other tables.
It easier for me to remember smithj then what number he is.

I enter smithj it populates the results table with his std data i.e., club
etc but will also have a rider ID field which then is used to fill in the
results table with new data - current race, position, points scored etc then
update the leagues.
