Update table with out duplicates

Using vba & sql how can I update a table and not have any duplicates put
the table?

Situation: I have a table that has customer records in it. I want to
update the table from linked tables that have customer records, but do
not want duplicate records. If customer 12345 is already in the table I
do not want it added again.
