Parent and child information on one form

P: n/a

I'm quite new to working with Access (using Access 97) and I'm trying to
develop an application. I've had a look at the Access help & also had a look
through Google but to no avail (maybe I'm not using the right search words -
not sure). So I hope someone here can help me.

What I have is a simple table with a list of people in it & every person has
a unique "Person" ID. Every person also has a supervisor who is also an
individual who's details are contained in the same table. Each person's
record in the table contains a field for their supervisor's ID which is the
"Person ID" of another individual in the same table.

There are about 5 Individuals (out of many hundreds) who have no supervisor.
So, to be clear, almost all individuals have a supervisor and an individual
may also be the supervisor to many others.

What I want to do is to have a form where I can look at an individual's
information and within that display minimal information about who his
supervisor is ( Name & phone # is about all I want to see).

I suppose the best analagy would be to think of a company telephone list -
all people in the company are contained within an employees table and each
has an employee number. Each employee's record has a field that contains his
Manager's employee number. When I look at the data for an individual
employee I want to be be able to display his manager's name and phone number
by pulling that information from the same table using the Manager's employee
number that is contained in the Employees data - and have it displayed
automatically within the same form as I'm using to look at the Employee's
data. I suppose I'm trying to relate records in a table to other records in
the same table - can you do this?

Hope someone can help steer me in the right direction as to how I can do
this.

thx & rgds

Iain

Just build a real nice "little" form that shows all the fields from the
other table. Then place a sub-form on your form. when you select a id for
supervisor field (use a combo box), then the sub-form will show the detail
info for the supervisor. You also have to set the link master/child fields
for the sub-form.

You can read the following to get some ideas on how to do this:
