Query is too complex

I have a make table query that inserts approx. 78 fields into a
table. The query works fine in my Access 97 container. However, when
I import the query into a XP container on a different machine and try
to run it I get 'Query is too complex'. Any ideas of what's causing
the problem in XP?

I have encountered that problem in the past with no one single answer that
solved it. One solution that has worked more than once was trying to
execute the query from a SQL string in code.
