programmer wanted for a Point-Of-Sale software with access-database

P: n/a
Hi,

We are from Belgium and are looking for someone who could write us a
point-of-sale (POS) software for a DVD-film shop.

I like it to be in MS-Access with some VBA or just VB.

The barcodes will be read through the keyboard interface, so there
want be work to do on serial scanners.

1) Inventary: reading and comparing the present stock just with one
input field
This way we can insert a 20 meters serial cable between PC and
BC-reader, read in the stock without using the keyboard. If the read
is a 13 digits number it means +1 piece in stock. Otherwise it is an
instruction like cancel last read, stock minus or last product amount.
example:
-reading "7321933235912" product "A" found and added 1 in stock
-reading "2"
-reading "5"
-reading "4687984546578" next product read -> last product "A" has +25
in stock.

2) Sales: looking up products with barcode or a piece of the title
1 VAT (BTW) 21%
-seperate couting of cash and credit cards.
-posibility to type in name, adres, vat-number and telefoon-number to
enable to print out a numbered invoice on a standard printer.
-ticket also on normal sized printer with a commercial ad read in as a
seperate file(tif, jpg, ...)

3) End of day: overview of sales and recieved payments

and much more later on....

We would pay you for every step that is working in the program. Though
we are only offering around 1000 euro or dollars!

Thank you.

Very funny.

Now please try a jobs forum rather than a technical forum

See the Access Based Accounting Systems page at my website. There are some POS down
a ways.

Then you'd best be buying a package. To build a system like that I would charge a
minimum of $10K or $20K.

Hmmm... I bought a retail store a few years ago -- and went broke --
part of what I bought was a custom POS package. It had originally been
written as a QuickBasic/Paradox app, then migrated to VB/Access. Over
the course of 15 years or so, it was tuned and enhanced. It reads
barcodes (with a cuecat :-), tracks inventory, produces monthly sales
reports, handles repair orders, generates POs for restocking, tracks
backorders, handles payroll including custom deductions, and fills out
state sales tax forms. Plus a bunch of other stuff. Pretty much ran
the whole store on this software.

People could visit the store's website and check the status of their
repair orders and do realtime price/inventory lookups -- each inventory
item could have its own webpage so it's effectively an online catalog as
well. (No online sales, though.)

Problem is, it was written by a non-programmer. There are a few unfixed
bugs and the code is absolutely the very worst kind of spaghetti.

Since the store is defunct I find myself with a lot of time on my hands
these days :-) I've been thinking about cleaning the POS package up and
turning it into a product; it would need pretty much a full rewrite plus
I'd like to add credit card processing and switch to client/server.
I've never tried my hand as a software vendor so I've been taking it
pretty slowly. But if POS systems are selling in that price range, I
probably should put a little more effort into it.
Yes, I know that becoming a software vendor requires hiring people to
handle things like fulfillment, support, and so on.

Well, I've changed my idea! I'm looking for a web-programmer as a
partner now.
I am willing to pay a small amount for it, but he (we) can sell this
product worldwide and test it in my shops.
I want to make a point-of-sale Portal site that will enable any store
to securly give in stock, make sales, inventory and even orders and
transfers to other stores of his allowed group. There is a very large
request around this here in Belgium, but I guess also worldwide
because I didn't find it anywhere!
This website will need a very, very large database or be able to start
another databases for each new loged-in (and paid) customer. There is
a lot to earn even asking very low prices!

An Example:
- Surfing the web I find this interesting online point-of-sale site.
I just need to log in and I can start selling my products, for 1 free
month.

After that I can pay a small amount that represents the sales I make
(maybe 0.1% or just 1 penny for each product sold) or with a
bank-deposit done a few days before with a special referance (there
are a lot of countries that don't have that much creditcards in use)

- Then I go to "sales" I type in the product name or barcode(could use
a keyboard switched barcode-reader) Because it ain't in stock, the
program asks for the name, price and amount in stock and updates the
stock.
The received money has been entered, ticket printed on standard
printer and I've made my first sale with it!!!

- Then some day I read in the hole stock entering the price and
product names for each not already existing read barcode. And now I
have all the products in my online database!!! I can even upload a
ASCII or Excel file lay out just the way the website askes it.

- Inventory with placing a 20 meters cable between the barcode-reader
and keyboard-switch. Using a barcode-card for entering the amount of 1
product before the product is being scanned. The PC gives sounds or
even speaks for what is happening. So there is only 1 input field that
automaticly sees if it is an instruction, barcode or amount. So I've
got now my entier stock online!!!

- I can go to logs and have sales charts and statistics.

- I can download all my data(stock,sales,transfers,...) in a textfile
or excel sheet.

-I can add other stores that can have a look in my stock and make/ask
transfers and orders.

-I can add logins with passes for employees.

-....

Well, you got a lot of discussion on POS in Access, but before you pursue
this seeking an employee, a contractor, or a partner any farther, I suggest
you take a look at the newsgroup's FAQ at
http://www.mvps.org/access/netiquette.htm. comp.databases.ms-access ain't
your local (or worldwide, for that matter) classifieds -- Terry already told
you that.
