Convert list of numbers to 780-xxx-xxxx

R2
Hello
Can anyone advise / help on this problem. I have a friend (brother in
law) who is in the (spam) telephone fax business. He would like to
convert numerous phone lists from old data bases to the xxx-xxx-xxxx
format. These numbers currently are in the form of xxxxxxx or xxx xxxx
or xxx-xxxx.
In trying to help him I have found that I can open his *.DBF file in
AccessXP and use the search/replace to "laboriously" go through every
number and turn it into the 780-xxx-xxxx format he desires. This seems
to work..... I open his DB with a linked Access Table, sort the list
ascending then search for xxx (start of field) and replace with
780-xxx-
There "must" be a better way..... Anyone with any thoughts...... On
the mechanics..... not the morality.... ;-)

Thanks
Ralph

Not if the solicitation was unasked for by me.

I'm using my computer to receive faxes so it's a bit easier for me than for
someone who has a fax machine.

All the junk faxes sent me offering cruises, hotel rooms, insurance, etc.,
costs me just time to discard, but for someone with a fax machine, it ties
up his fax phone line, costs the recipient paper and toner supplies costs,
as well as eventually shortening the life of the fax machine, not to take
into account the salary of someone to read the fax to see who to give it to.

If they advertise in a newspaper or other publication, it cost me nothing to
discard. As a matter of fact, I get paid when I recycle those old papers.

So advertise in a newspaper - I'm for it.
Send an unsolicited Fax - Nope.

The easiest way to solve this is for him to stick his tongue in a
light socket.

Would it make any difference if he was converting this list on behalf of a
very generous company or a deserving Charity? Just Wondering....

Thanks for all the thoughts on the "morality"..... And I agree
STRONGLY with ALL the comments.... But, in the mean time.... I am
between a rock and a hard place.... converting the numbers the hard
way.
