Access 97 Multiple columns [comboboxes] on single subform

2 New Member
Hello:
situation--I have a research database. Each record in the database consists of 10 fields. I used access97 to rack/stack my database; very easy in the beginning. I created a form with a combobox. Using some information I found through this forum, I created the comboxbox in the form's header linked to textboxes in the form's detail. I could click on the column and see the linked data populate the 10 textboxes. I could easily maneuver through the column to find the title that I needed and click on it to see the linked data in the text boxes. Then, my research changed and I needed to discriminate the records based on new variables. I have 9 variables. So, I built 9 forms; one for each variable. I used a tab control form with 9 tabs; again, one tab for each variable. Then I reproduced a subform on each tab with a combobox in the form's header linked to textboxes in the form's detail. To recap: I can click on a specific variable (tab) and using a combobox linked to textboxes pullup linked fields.
Now my research has changed again and requires a second level discriminator. I am using the variable of time--short, mid and long--to filter my data.
I initially attempted to place a tab control within a tab control, but have found out through this forum, that it is not quite that easy. Doing some homework I was able to overcome the tab within a tab challenge. However, I am not overly thrilled of the appearance of a tab within a tab to discriminate the 9 variables against time (I open form, select tab of specific variable and then select tab to choose time variable).
My questions for forum: is there a technique for placing 3 comboboxes in a forms header (each form represents one of the nine variables with each combobox representing a time variable) whereupon I could click on each combobox and have its associated data populate text boxes in the forms detail?
I would not need to see all the data from the 3 comboboxes to populate at the same time--just need each combobox to populate text boxes when I click on a title in a combobox. If 3 separate comboboxes can not populate the same text boxes in the same form, could I use a command button or toggle to switch between the comboxes?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

A while back I got a requirement for the client to be able to adjust the relative heights of two subforms by click-dragging the mouse and I came up with a kludge solution using a border control between the two subforms. But I put my mind to this again recently and came up with a solution (code below) that works well with multiple subforms to size both the heights and widths of the sunforms relative to each other, and it uses no additional...

I've been struggling with this problem for some time and have tried multiple solutions with no luck. Let me start with, I'm a novice at Access and I'm not looking for someones help to design my database, just help in getting me pointed in the right direction. I have a database with 8 tables, which from what I have read, cannot be linked on a single form, and be updatable. I have created a query which includes all 8 tables, and then...

We are trying to rebuild a current Access 2002 (XP) mdb program to VB.NET with a SQL database - we are having problems with a suitable combobox. There are many threads discussing multiple column comboboxes in .NET. We are having success with the multiple columns similar to the combobox from Access 2002 (XP). Our biggest problem is speed. In a form in Access 2002, our combobox is able to load data in a table in separate Access database...

How will Access fair in a year? Two years? .... The new version of Access seems to service non programmers as a wizard interface to quickly create databases via a fancy wizard. Furthermore, why would you even continue to use Access as a backend when you have a much superior option in SQL express? What about as a future front-end development tool? Let's get serious. Microsoft continues to publish numerous articles and videos on how you...

I have been given a database to look a and I am loosing tremendious amounts of time trying to organize it so that I could view it. Regards, Alexandre Brisebois

I need an automated procedure to copy data from an Access table to a SQL Server table. Speed is important. What is the recommended technique? I can export the data from Access, copy it via FTP, then import it into SQL Server. I've tried that, and the speed is acceptable. It is an ugly solution, however, and I expect to find a better one -- preferably a solution better integrated with the Access RDBMS. I've tried using an ODBC...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
