Disable "Design View" from menu and right-click in Access 2007

2 New Member
Hi,

I am working for a company which as a MS SQL backend and Access as front end. We update automatically each access db on the user local machine when a new feature has become available.

We have to stay with MDB for several reasons, so please avoid telling me "you have to convert to MDE"... It is not an option.

We need to allow our users to have the right-click so they can export the reports to pdf or other format.

We need to remove the "Design View" from the right-click contextual menu and from the "Office Button" Menu. We have disable the SHIFT and the VBA is password protected. But if the user right-click on the form or report and play with the "Design View", this user has suddenly access to all the underlying queries and that could be desastrous.

We have no idea how to do that.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi marcnz

This option will then not appear on any form shortcut.
I am not too sure what you operating requirements are, and there are a number of ways (naturally) of achieving this one requirement, but the one that spring to mind is

Open the Customize toolbar dialogue (Tools -> Customize)
on the Toolbar tab check 'Shortcut Menus'
from the Toolbar that appears select 'Forms', then 'Form View Title Bar'
and then drag the 'Form Design' OFF the the list and drop it (somewhere off the list)

This option will then not appear on any form shortcut.

The same should be done for the Reports 'Print Preview' short cut.

I think that will do it, but only testing it will confirm if that does what you want.

As I said there are other ways (like disabling all shortcuts/toolbars/menus and designing your own), but if this works then OK!

BTW, I am not sure what you mean by the '"Office Button" Menu' ??

Hi, marcnz,

Would you please let me know how to use password to protect VBA code in Access 2007? I need to avoid the unauthorized user to see my VBA code.

Thanks a lot.

marcnz would you be able to state why you are not converting from MDB to MDE, this is pure curiosity and not to offer advice as I can not think of examples when you would want to stick with the MDB, but might be useful for me to know in the future.

Hi there :) I don't know how else to call what I'm currently implementing: An object that behaves like a list but doesn't store it's own items but rather pulls them from a larger list (if they match a certain criterion). Changes to the filter are instantly reflected in the underlying list. Clear enough? Ok, so I figured that this is...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
