Combo box auto expand problem

In a prior posting (too old to reply directly), Jim Devenish described
exactly what my client has seen, both in terms of AutoExpand behaving
oddly and the way that caps lock relates to the situation. The problem
is hard to nail down because 1) the combo box misbehaves only for
certain combo box entries and 2) it won't necessarily misbehave when
it's copied to another machine.

I'm attempting to get Microsoft to acknowledge the problem on the
Knowledge Base. No luck yet.

P.S. I'll add the words STRANGE and WEIRD here in hopes that it will
help people looking for this post. And I'll add WIERD because I've
noticed that a whole bunch of people who post to this group apparently
operate under the mistaken notion that I-before-E applies to this word.

---------- Jim's original post ----------------------------
I have a combo box with Auto Expand and Limit to List both set to
'yes'.

When I type 'C' I correctly get:
C J Valeting
When I type 'CO' I get:
Cogent Seating Ltd
again correct
BUT when I go on to type 'COM', looking for 'Commercial Motors', I get

(incorrectly)
CoMgent Seating Ltd
Auto expand ceases to work and the keyboard appears to go into insert
mode.
The mystery is even worse in that this only occurs when Caps Lock is on

but not when it is off. Even worse, it only happens on one particular
computer - not on others.
There must be some setting on this computer which is causing this - any

suggestions as to what it could be?

Could it be a matter of speed? Typing COM quickly or slowly may make a

Hi I have a singlepage design (non-frame) so the whole page is refreshe on postback. I have a treebiew filled from a site.map. Works fine. But on every postback every single node in the treeview is expanded (!). The desired behavoir would be that i remembered the expand/collaps state on post back. Is that possible?

Hello again, In Access 2k3, I need for the combo list to auto expand when the user tabs into the field, or click on the field. I saw that there is a DropDown command, is that correct? Just typed that in the field properties event onenter or onclick? Thanks you.

I've got a control on my form that allows the user to select a record based on a form field (in this example, the drop down menu shows the company name, followed by the contact name but uses the contactid to change the data on the form). Most users, start typing the company name which will auto complete itself with the first entry with the letters typed so far. They can then click on the arrow to view the listings, select the one they want...

Dear reader, What can be wrong in my ComboBox, the property "Auto Expand" is set to Yes, but by typing in the ComboBox it doesn't expand. Is this because the source of the ComboBox is a query.

Initially the combo box (cboSearchName) was working fine but for no apparent reason it now works for only the first two characters typed. In other words, if I have the names Smith and Small; Small appears (as it should) when I type SM. If I continue to type SMI, the "I" is inserted before the "all". If I continue to type out SMITH, I end up SMITHall. At the second letter, the "lightning bolt" appears and I have the option to Auto-Correct. None...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
