Second Database Is Slow To Open

The following problem started on my PC about a week ago and I can't
link it to any specific change. I'm using Access XP.

If I have any database open and try to open any other database by
double clicking its file in Explorer, it takes about 5 seconds to open.
Previously the second database would open almost instantaneously , as
one would expect on a reasonably fast machine.

However if I have any database open and then open a second instance of
Access by running it from the Start menu it opens instantaneously . If
I then double click any another database file in Explorer it will use
the open instance of Access and open instantaneously .

I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Access but the problem
remains. If anyone can give me a clue as to what is causing the
problem, and better still how to fix it, I would appreciate it.

Hi, I have an asp.net application which runs from a CD-ROM using Cassini. As such, it is single user only. The application connects to an Access database when it is loaded, and keeps the same connection open all the time (as it's single user, this shouldn't be a problem). There is logic in the code to ensure that the connection is

Hi, I used the database splitter today, but it has made using the database unbearably slow - a form that was already slow to open (4-5 seconds) takes more like 30 seconds on the machines that will be using the DB. So, I changed it back. Will the problem here be the cross-tab queries, lookups or something else entirely? Also I tried the...

I have a PHP5 application that accepts external messages, and inserts them into a database. It's rather high traffic.. the server could be receiving thousands at a time, and recently mysql has been locking up because it's exceeding the max_connections limit. I raised it for now, but that's only a temporary fix. My question is is there a...

I experienced the following problem the last time I installed IE7 beta. Since then I have done a reformat of my hard disc and after using IE6 for a while I installed the latest version of IE7 and the problem has reappeared. The problem didn't manifest when I was using IE6. The cause is probably extremely obscure and the reason for this...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
