Access errors when opening DB on system with different codepage

Hi there,

I got an MS Access DB, which is causing problems when the client PC is
running using a Traditional Chinese codepage.

The DB was probably created with Access 97, Western European codepage.
However, the DB I got is now already in Access 2002 / 2003 file format,
thus should be already converted to Unicode.

When I open the DB on my PC with Western European codepage, it runs
well. When I change my codepage to Traditional Chinese or run it on
another PC with Traditional Chinese codepage, I have several error

o "Method 'ActiveForm' of object 'Screen' failed"
o "The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting
produced the following error: A problem occurred while DB was
communicating with the OLE server or ActiveX Control."
o "The OpenForm action was canceled."
o "The OpenReport action was canceled."
o Some forms are asking for parameters when opening them, although the
aren't supposed to.

Once the DB was opened on a Chinese system, it will also produce the
same errors on the system with Western European codepage. Thus the
opening of the DB on the Chinese system is changing the DB somehow.

How can I convert my DB in a way that makes it run on all systems,
regardless of codepage?

All systems I use are Windows XP with all patches applied and MS Access
2003 (Version 11.6566.6568) SP2.

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

I've seen plenty of articles on this topic but none of them have been able to solve my problem. I am working with an Access 97 database on an NT4.0 machine, which has many Access reports. I want my users to be able to select a report, click on a command button on a form, which will then automatically create the report as a pdf file and save it to the user's machine. I am using Adobe Acrobat (5.0 I think) and have Adobe Distiller as a

Hi, I am automating Access reports to PDF using PDF Writer 6.0. I've created a DTS package to run the reports and schedule a job to run this DTS package. If I PC Anywhere into the server on where the job is running, the job runs sucessfully, PDF files got generated, everything is good. If I scheduled the job to run at the time that I am not logged into the server, Access is not able to print to the printer. The error is pretty...

I have inherited a bunch of dbs which are are shared among a small group in my dept. We typically use the dbs to write queries to extract data, usually dumping it into Excel. Most dbs originated in MsAccess 97 or prior and have been converted to 2003. On occassion user 1 will open a db. When user 2 opens the db it will not let user 2 modify macros and what not. I can understand this and realize we could split the db; it is not worth ...

Hi Everybody, I have been looking at problems with my Windows Forms C# application and it's little Jet 4 (Access) database for the last few days. The Windows Forms app implements a facade and implementation, data abstraction layer. But because each data adapter in the implementation layer has a connection object that opens and closes as needed, I found I got several errors from the Jet engine when there were simultaneous connections to...

Hello I develop my applications in Access 2002. My development system is running Windows XP SP2 and I have Microsoft Office XP Developer. Microsoft Office XP is at SP3. I used Inno Setup (great product) to install my applications. When the Access Runtime was needed on the system I simply ran 'accessrt.msi' from Microsoft Office Developer discs. When another version of Access (other than Access 2002) was on the system then I simply...

I have an MFC app with 2000 users. I have one user that experiences a crash in our software anywhere from 1 to 5 times a week when opening a particular module. I have analyzed the dmp files from several of this user's crashes using windbg...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
