This Recordset is not Updateable Problem

jm
I have a simple query. It has two tables. If I open the tables
separately, I can add records. If I open them up together, the
recordset is not updateable. As best I know, this has never been a
problem it just happened all of a sudden.
- The database has been repaired and converted several times to no
avail.
- All the permissions are correct.
- Copying and pasting the table and query in the same database does
not work.
- Importing the table into another/new database does not work.
- Other combined tables in a query will allow updating.
- I have tried it as Access 2000 and XP.
- I have installed (last resort) the latest SP8 for the Jet database.

Thank you for any help. I can find no settings to cause this
occurrence. I am stumped.

Has the recordset type, or locking been changed? Right click on the query in
design view. It has to be set to one of the Dynaset types in order to be
updateable. Is the DB shared with someone else having locking turned on
somehow?

3 things to look at: indexes, relationships and SQL for the query.

In a typical setup, with 2 related tables, modelling orders with 1 or more
items I might have:
tblOrders: OrdID, OrdDate, OrdNumber, etc
tblOrderItems: ItmID, ItmOrdID, ItmQuantity, etc

If I was having problems deleting from a query based on these tables, I
would first check that my indexes were in place, that is, OrdID and ItmID
being set as the primary key and ItmOrdID being required and indexed but
with duplicates allowed. I would then check Tools>Relations hips and check
the relationship between OrdID and ItmOrdID and make sure it is as expected
(I don't know whether you wanted to specify cascading updates and deletes).
If all of that seemed OK but I could still not delete, I would check the SQL
of the query and post it here if I could still not work it out.

It said Dynaset, but it needed to say Dynaset (Inconsistent Updates)I
believe it just said "Dynaset" from being converted from 97 to 2000
(just using the drop down worked.) How it worked until now is a
mystery, but changing this either on the query or the form, and
usually both, worked.

Thank you for the hint.

I have a form full of subforms which bring summary information onto the form from about 12 different tables. I am trying to get all of that summary information (mainly numbers) into 1 large table that represents the final results for the year. The table into which I wish to save it has 10 records, the past 10 years results. The problem is that I select the calendar year from an unbound combo box and it runs a filter that restricts the...

I have a very basic query that Access 2000 will not allow to be updatable. I've gone through all the situations in the help file where data cannot be updated, and I don't see that this query belongs to any of those. I have checked all permissions, locks, etc.. - can't find anything out of the ordinary that would explain it. Deleted the DistinctRow - no change. The SQL version is below - anyone notice the problem or have any...

Even though the code is VBA I will be translating to VBS for a MS SQL Server DTS package. That I know how to do. I have a postgresql backend with an access front end and I am trying to redefine the recordset of the form to use an ADO recordset. I've been reading the newsgroups and most of the solutions for this message are simple and obvious but unfortunately don't solve my problem. I have an MS-Access 2002 ADP application that connects to SQL server. The application is deployed to 100+ users and in most cases works fine. I have a sub-set of users (~20) who have an auditing function. They review transactions entered by the other 100+ and accept or reject them. There are a...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
