Make laptop work off locally stored profile while connected via vpn

Hi All,

I back up mydocuments on my server but it seems as if my laptop works off the server as opposed to the local profile on my machine. The problem is when i am connected to the server remotely working o mydocuments is slow. Is there somewhere I can tell the laptop to work of the locally stored mydocuments as opposed to the server copy?

Also when i go into my profile in document settings on the laptop there is no mydocuments foldr there
