Hi guys, I am beta testing Windows 7 and I got all my programs to run fine except for WordPerfect X3.

Here is what happens: When I launch the program it will say there is an error and WordPerfect needs to be closed, this happens every time.

I installed the latest Service Pack 2 but the problem persists. The other programs in the Office X3 work fine, just the WordPerfect keeps crashing on start.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also tried installing WordPerfect 12, the problem seems to be inherent. I wonder if it has to do with the PrintServer app that was causing the issue in Windows Vista.

Just a thought: Have you tried compatibility mode? I'm guessing it worked fine with XP, right?

I think this is one where you will either have to find an answer from googling or, more likely, contact WordPerfect support.

Unless it's a known problem out in the wild I suspect they're going to need to look at it to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, they may try the "Well, it's actually MS's fault for doing something in Windows 7 they shouldn't have." line on you, in which case you are up the proverbial gum tree, for the time-being at least.

Hi there NeoPa, long time no talk. Glad to hear from you too.

So I contacted Corel tech support and they were useless, they blamed it all on Microsoft and suggested I try WordPerfect Office X4. I am downloading the trial now to see if it works, will post back and let you guys know what happened.

Office X4 did not work either. I am now downloading the RC1 of Windows 7, after the upgrade I will try all three versions of Word Perfect again and post back with results.

Yeah. Let us know what you find.

PS. What does RC1 stand for? Is Win 7 fully released yet?

Thanks Ambr.

I guess that means the answer to my question was "No." then.

Yes...you are getting it right. Win 7 is not fully released yet.

I don't know the exact release date but don't worry....After Vista's downfall, MS will try to make the W7 release bigger with wider media coverage and advertising to appeal to the masses. You will know about the W7 launchg all by yourself :)

And maybe MS will organize some "celebrations" boasting about W7's stability (which is the hot talk right now). Lies.....Lies.....Lies everywhere ;)

My understanding from IT press is that the W7 release is scheduled for early 2010 but that MS may put a rush on it to get it out in time for the "holiday season" or what the rest of us would call Christmas :D (OK admittedly in USA there are several major holidays around Christmas time).

re: Windows 7 and WordPerfect X3

Hi guys, so let's get back on topic here. I did a clean install of Windows 7 RC1 and after installing all the updates from windows update website and making sure all hardware and components were up to date, I installed Word Perfect Office X3. This time it worked!!!! But right after adding three network printers (A Xerox, a Kyocera and an HP), Word Perfect started crashing again. Solution to the problem was deleting the HP from the list of printers. Apparently the HP LaserJet P2015 PCL 6 Driver causes the problem and is incompatible with Windows 7 when shared on the network from an XP machine. I suspect this can be fixed by a new driver from HP.

Hope this helps to anybody else with the same problem.

On the other note, I am very impressed with RC1 it runs much better and has a lot of great features it is definitely better built then Vista.

Ah. That rings true. Printer drivers can often be the gristle in the pie.

I wish I were surprised that HP should be the problem. Unfortunately, for all their years of experience, they often seem to have glitches.

Maybe I'm being a little unfair, but we use HP mainly here, and their drivers, even their latest ones, still have glitches on various of the printers.

re: Windows 7 and WordPerfect X3

Win7 + WordPerfect Office X3 (retail Home Edition) + Brother MFC-3360C

What work for me with the above items was the correct sequence of installation. Note that this is a very clean set-up as I purchased a new hd just for Windows 7.

First of course was a clean install of Win7 32bit rc. After which I installed drivers and essential softwares such as anti-virus, Firefox 3.1, Comodo Firewall, etc... Then the Brother driver and printer. That seems to be my first major error with Win7.

For would be users of WP Office X3, install just the main suite and Task Master. No re-booting was required. Run Corel Update Advisor WPOX3. In my case I was advised to install service pack 2 of WPOX3. Make sure you have the full download of 84.1Mb. Re boot after WPOX3-SP2. Then proceed with latest driver installation of Brother MFC-3360C.

Thanks Cyberdyne, I got the idea from your previous posts here. Hope my post will also be helpful to others.

Now, if someone can help me with Firefox resolution on 21"-22" CRT monitor....

re: Windows 7 and WordPerfect X3

Finally recd new computer yesterday with Windows 7. First thing I did was to install WordPerfect program and transfer my WordPerfect files from old XP to new W-7 computer. I can open WordPerfect, but when I try to access my text files/documents, WordPerfect shuts down, grays out, will not allow exit. I have to Control-Alt Delete. Same thing if I type a test line and try to save it. I see from this thread this is a known problem and will be a BIG problem for me. I'll be back to check for any answers. Thanks.. Dixiebelle:

This happened to me too.

Go to:

Tools
Settings
Files

Make sure the box that says "Use enhanced file dialogs" is NOT checked.

This fixed the problem for me.

re: Windows 7 and WordPerfect X3

First of all my case was with the 32-bit Win 7 RC1 version. I don't know if the 64-bit or retail versions will be any different.

Uninstall WPX3.......

Go to the Corel website and look for topics having to do with Win 7.

In my case I did this.

For would be users of WP Office X3, install just the main suite and Task Master. No re-booting was required. Run Corel Update Advisor WPOX3. In my case I was advised to install service pack 2 of WPOX3. Make sure you have the full download of 84.1Mb of WPOX3. Reboot after WPOX3-SP2. Then proceed with latest driver installation of Brother MFC-3360C.

Hope it helps you

re: Windows 7 and WordPerfect X3

My problem was more on how to make WPX3 and my Brother all-in-1 printer all function properly under Win 7 32-bit RC1.

If the printer driver was installed before WPX3 - something didn't work. Can't remember if it was the printer or WPX3.

With the proper sequence of installation both software and printer worked properly.

Hope this helps

Kings4navy: Gee, thanks! It worked like a charm! I had heard today that I could buy the latest version of WPerfect ($55 saved) and that should fix the problem. I am so happy about this. But I suppose the real test will come after I install my printer on the new PC. I'll be back here if the printer install causes WP to crash again. Thanks again. :)
