Default DVD is not reading burned DVD

Hello,

Yesterday I backed up my documents and pictures onto 2 DVD's because I reformatted my hard drive. I double checked to make sure they were on the DVD's prior to reformatting. However, now, when I put the DVD's in the computer, the computer reads it as a blank CD and won't pull up any information.

In the Device Manager, it has everything set up and working properly. It even plays other DVD's, just not the burned DVD that I made.

I am not sure if this forum is the place for this question, but I thought I saw a couple of posts while trying to find an answer to my question.

Thanks in advance,
AP

To someone who may have an idea it might be helpful to know.

What OS?
What software did you use to burn them?
What type of DVD R or RW?

Oh of course...

1) I am using Windows XP Pro
2) I guess I really didn't "burn" them per say, I just moved them to the E drive. I can open them on a laptop at work, but not on my computer that I reformatted.
3) I put them on a Sony DVD+R, 120 min/4.7 GB - Ver.1.3/1x-16x

I generally can't stand MS documentation, but I'm at a loss here. So here is a link to "How to Troubleshoot Issues with Reading CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD Discs" on the MS support site.

Who is the manufacturer of your computer and what drive information can you give us? There is probably a simple firmware update for you and it will work. I am glad that your laptop can open up the files, you can also share your laptop drive and put the disk in there, then connect to your laptops shared drive from your reformatted computer and copy all the files, I suggest using cat5e or cat6 for this not wireless as there is a lot of data on two dvds.

Best luck, Cyber... if you need any help just post back.

Cheers.

Sounds like you might just need to update your DVD drive drivers, and all the other drivers on your PC you can miss a few during freash installs. Go to device manager and see how many yellow "?" you have.

At least the data is on the discs, so keep them safe!

Hi,

Im having that same problem, however on a slightly different format. I have just purchased a new computer (running Vista), having updated from XP. I put in 1 disc with backed up files on it, which initially read, however the next time i tried to open the disc or any like it I know get the standard Blank DVD disc.

I am using TDK DVD-R 4.7GB 1-16x

They run on all of my friends computers but not my own.

I have been told that NERO is not compatible with Vista yet...could that be one of the problems or am i missing something????

Hey everyone, I'm having a similar problem. I use the program ConvertXtoDVD to convert my downloaded movies to DVD format (whatever that is), and after I converted a movie I'm prompted to burn it to a disk and it says to enter a blank media disk into my "E" drive. I do that, but it doesn't register it. It says that there is no disk in the drive. I know my drive is on b/c when I open and close it, it flashes its green light, but for some reason it's now reading the disk. I even opened up my start menu and went into my computer and there was no sign of a disk being in my "E" drive. plz help! Any help will do, thank you.
