I can sometimes get the splash page, but when I try to navigate the files, I get the above message. Most of the time it simply shuts down. Once I was able to get into the database and instead of using my mouse, I used the tab button and had no problems. However, when I tried to reopen the program after exiting, I began to get the same message. I have checked for updates for FTM and XP; reinstalled Direct X; and did the standard Norton fixes to no avail.
The one thing I did find was a 'damaged' file:
