I was wondering if you could give me some good advice on how to start using and writing in visual basic.
I currently have no knowledge on this subject, so a complete blank sheet so to speak.
I've been reading through visual basic for dummies, but its not been much help so far.
I want and need to understand the basic fundamentals behind a subject, I'm not one of those people who can jump in and pres buttons, I need to know what they can do and the reason that they are doing it.

so any advice on books or articles that would help me.

re: where to start?

I see you haven't had any responses yet.

For a start, if you don't have VB yet I'd suggest you download the free VB 2005 Express Edition.

Then go trawling the web for tutorials. TheScripts is geared more toward helping programmers who hit a particular problem in their code, but there are tons of VB tutorials out there. In fact I suspect the free download probably includes some. (I must go have a look, some day soon - I'm still using VB6).
