biometrics/ finger print in vb6 - Visual Basic 4 / 5 / 6

my next project deals with finger print scanning rather than passwords..
can anyone explain how it works? im in vb6 and MSaccess 2000 database..
does it only save an image file and compares them? help please...

Hi there,

You need to make use of the SDK (Software Development Kit) that comes along with the Finger Print Scanner. SDK is a set of library files needed to ebanle communication between the hardware (Finger Print Scanner) and the software (the one you will design).

SDK comes with a predefined algorithm that will enable pattern comparison (images stored in database). Hope you understand as of this part, hope it helps too. Good luck & Take care.

Hi sashi,

Beginner here too in biometric development. I would just like to ask if you can share to us any SDK you got over there because I am having prob with the device that my boss gave me. It's a digitalpersona fingerprints scanner and yes with software But there is no things such as SDK in the package only predefined/pre-developed and compiled VB program where user can test the device. My problem is what control in VB I can use for the program I am going to develop. You may email any helpful stuff @ <Removed by Moderator>. Thanks in advance.
