How good to use Partition table?

Hi All,

I have one table with around 5 million records in it. I am thinking of making it as partitioned table. I have never did this thing before. I just want to know from experts like you that would it be good to use partitioned table in this case to improve select queries performance and also pls tell me how it will effect on insert/update/delete operations.
