Locking for good combinations of:

Language (compiler/IDE) and Graphics Library (+ other tools)

For game development or other software requiring more than forms.

My requirements:

Licenses allowing commercial software!!
Freeware (or cheap) / Open source
Multiplatform (Linux/Windows/*)
2D or 3D

Also plz explain your choice.

Python and pygame!

Can't beat it unless you want to run natively on windows. Then you want DirectX or XNA.

Good luck!

If you are interested in C#, you can use visual studio express with the Microsoft's XNA. See:

Have Fun.

Cool, in my mind I think I had remembered that the express versions had a license that not allowed commercial use (don't know if they had befor?), but your right it is allowed. I guess that’s a great option if you are using Windows.
