this is an age old debate, who is more effective==>a coder or a programmer...
the definitions of these two terms are also are overloaded multiple times.
lets start with these in TSDN.
when should we be called a programmer and when a coder?
and what do you think is the difference between the terms?

re: Coder Vs Programmer

Hey friends i just changed my Job.
I am working in my current company as "senior software developer" and at new company my title will be "programmer analyst". I am going to join that company but before that wants to know which title is better.

And whats the difference between "senior software developer" and "programmer analyst" ?

I perfer programer because coder doesnt sound as good.

Also its sounds better to be a software devloper then a coder devloper otherwise i see no different but coding sounds like some sort of hacking

My opinion

I don't think these posts are created as per any standard. Every company has different name for same position and same type of work. I am very well confused with this stuff.

I think it is very important to define some sort of standard for this stuff.

re: Coder Vs Programmer

My job title says im a programmer,
But my duties are also dicumentation (Which i have done nothing of, as the clients are not interested in it)
So happy to call myself a programmer, But at the same time..... I just get the requirements, and i convert it to a product, so i am well above a programmer ( a developer i think)
But apparantly the client dosent like me putting my name as a developer - why - they contest that they have paid for the source code and own all rights to it...well keep the clients happy, let them fancy that they developed it...will watch and see them burn when this contract finishes :P

re: Coder Vs Programmer

I call myself a developer but allow my clients to own the application. This is a little different than owning the source code as in my area so much of the code is standard procedures that noone can really own it.

If I "rob" a module or procedure then I cite the copywrite of the owner in the code and let the client worry about it. So far I've had no complaints.

In my case the client is only concerned that they own the application and can make changes etc as required without recourse to me (although they usually do).
