GPIO line act as interrupt process on telit 862-gps

Hi everyone :)
(telit 862-GPS) pyton script
Is there anyone have solution how to use GPIO line on 862-GPS to act as "interupt"?

for example:
i'd like to send sms or turn on LED (immiditly) pressing button connected on GPIO line or somehow to store this state in pyton variable without additional hardware, interupting pyton run-time process.

i found solution to use flipflop to store button state and when i have idle time in code to chek this state. this solution works but it's not pyton solution.
also anyone have pyton solution for this "problem"?
