paypal custom variable

after searching of some article that will answer my question and find
nothing I decided to post it here.

my question is on how can I retain the value of a variable after the
customer paid the product from paypal.

example. page 1 has a value "images/image01.jpg" now after the
customer paid and return to the page i want to get this same value
which is "images/image01.jpg".

thanks in advance for any help.
