Can anyone give me some ideas on what book to buy to learn PHP/SQL.

I am brand new to PHP and programming all together.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, here is a link to some Books our staff likes.
May not be current, look for the latest editions.

Hope this helps!

re: Best PHP / SQL Book for beginners

i started off using one one visual quickstart books that covers php
because they are very simple (if not a little too simple). they are
good for grasping the very basics of php.

another book i own, that contains a good amount of php help, is php
and mysql web development. it will require a little more reading to
begin with but will keep you more occupied that the quickstart ones
and will save you having to buy another book. ive had it for about 2
years and have read most of it but i still use it frequently as a
reference even now.

Learning PHP 5 by O'Reilly Publisher covers all the basics of using PHP5
with db's. Then get "SQL Queries for Mere Mortals" to get grounded in
sql. If you need a rdms design book, have a look at "Database Design
for Mere Mortals".

Hate to sound like a broken record, but http://www.sitepoint.com has
several books on PHP that are really good, they are well-written and easy
to follow. They also have a book on PHP and MySQL that I'm guessing is
well done too but haven't read it or the sample chapters to know. If
the PHP Anthology is any indicator you will find all their books excellent
sources of information and training.

"PHP and MySQL Web Development"
Luke Welling and Laura Thomson
Sams publishing

got me going.
