Tomorrow I will be asking for a script critique even though I know its
going to get slagged silly .

Being a php newbie means I can only write newbie code .

Will this be taken into account or are some users on this newsgroup in
fantasy cloud cuckoo land and think a newbie should be able to write
expert code ? .

People here are usually nice. You insinuating they're in fantasy cloud
cuckoo land and that they will probably slag silly your code is
definitely *not* nice.

Just post it, be ready to react to the positive criticism and ignore
the negative if there is such.

We all were newbies sometime.

Heck why not? It's not like your code is going to be controlling a 747

The ego wank type of users on here have already shown themselves .

Although I must admit some of them needed a bit of prodding :-)

But isnt it a true saying that to see underneath you have to scratch the
surface a little .

As long as:

1) you tell it like it is
2) you don't post 1000's of lines of code

I think it's reasonable to expect some sort of informed response.

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest that you read up on standard
coding styles. The only widely used one I'm aware of for PHP is the PEAR
style guide (http://pear.php.net/manual/en/standards.php) and make sure
your code conforms.

I've already been given the www.php.net url on a number of occasions
even though like them I have it bookmarked :-)

The users who have answered my newbie questions without any of the crap
some of the others seem to enjoy so much will get listened too - but the
other fuckers will get scant regard .

I don't mind when people link to a specific function in the manual. It
answers the question quickly, and lets me find the answer myself - with a
definate place to find the answer. A general php url doesn't really help.

I've also been totally stuck, exhausting every possible search I can think
of, and tried turning to newsgroups for help - only to get RTFM. It's
frustrating I agree, particularly when you do find the answer it is dead
easy.

I jumped onto an IRC channel once asking a question, and got told to RTFM
quite rudely - so I jumped out and logged in with a different name. I
proceeded to answer everyones questions, including a question from the
person who told me to RTFM. It made me feel like a better person because I
didn't resort to the same no brainer RTFM. I answered his question, and
realised that his knowledge was actually very limited.

Someone's been saying "it's only usenet" - very true.

Different skill levels will always clash .

The same questions being asked every so often really gets them off :-)

Although they must be pretty stupid if they dont expect questions about
php to be asked on a php newsgroup .
