Mapping - GIS

I realize that GIS is a whole other realm but was wondering if any of you
have done any PHP apps that incorporate a mapping function? Specifically
what I need is to give an address, street, city and zip and have a Lat/Lon
coordinate returned. Having the ability to submit a list of coordinates and
have them plot on a map would be a secondary requirement.

I am somewhat familiar with MapInfo and Mapquest services. Both seem
overkill for what our need is. Anyone used anything else with success?

Not exactly what you are looking for, but the U.S. Postal Service
has a product called "TIGER/ZIP+4 File", which is a text file
that contains ZIP+4 codes and their geographic coordinates.
