ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error

hi,
While updateing a column in a table,using rowid as references i am getting
error like "ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal".
Please can anyone tell me reason for this.

Cause: An ORACLE server session is in an unrecoverable state.
Action: Login to ORACLE again so a new server session will be created
