problems with ad hoc connection between vista and xp.

Hello everyone...
1.
I created an ad hoc netwrok in vista.
The xp detects the netwrok, but on double clicking shows, 'IBBS joined'
Does it mean that the two are connected...?
If not, what should i do...?

2.
After that, i tried to enable the file sharing in vista in network and sharing center,
but that didn't work, it says 'Incorrect function'...
How do i enable file sharing and network discovery...?

i am a newbie, so please cooperate even with teh basic questions...

I have another doubt,

I connected to the internet through wireless, and in the network sharing if I customize the network to be private, i could not enable any of the options including file sharing and network discovery...etc.
But if i customize the network to public, it allows me to enable the network discovery and file sharing but I still can't enable the public folder sharing.
On clicking the option-'Turn on sharing so that everyone on the network can open files' , I get the pop up window saying-Incorrect Function...

Another issue i face is-
I go to a folder inside the public folder right click on the public music folder->security->Advance on the bottom right corner->edit->add->allow everyone full access...

after doing so, I right click on the same folder->properties->sharing tab->advanced sharing->check the share this folder->
under the permissions->everyone with read permission.
I click ok and get the pop up saying -INCORRECT FUNCTION. The shared resource was not created at this time.


I have even disabled my firewall.
How do i enable sharing...?
Kindly guide me...
