Hi,
I have a folder nested within about 3 others on a shared network drive.
2 security groups are on the root of this drive; lets call them ug_Public and ug_Admin. Everybody is a member of ug_Public and a select few of ug_Admin.

Admin has write permissions on all files and folders from the root, Public only has read permissions.

In a nested folder of the root I have set the permissions for Public to have Write capability on all folder and files from this point but they can only still read the contents.

Is this something that cannot be done because of the read permissions granted from the root of the drive?
I dont want to turn on Write for Public users for the entire shared drive!

re: Folder Permissions

When setting the permissions for your subfolder, click on the advanced button and then deselect inherit from parent...... and select replace permissions.........

To be honest I was thinking of that but assumed I already tried. I will double check again tomorrow when in the office

Yep Inheritance is turned off - and just to double check, there is no Deny permissions set on any of the security groups that are allowed to write to this particular folder.

Still cannot work this out at the moment!

Check for any "deny" permissions. Deny settings take precedent over allow settings.

You also need to enable the Replace Permissions option as well as remove Inheritance. If not then anything pre-existing in the folder will still have the original settings. Users would be able to write to the folder but not to any subfolder and not edit existing documents.
