with each other, without the need for the internet to be working?
Hopefully that makes sense. If not, I'll explain a little more...
In my household there are 2 computers: one upstairs in my room (woopie!) and one downstairs in the front room. We a wireless router (bthomehub) that both computers use to connect to the net.
What I was wondering was, could my upstairs computer have access to files on the downstairs computer through this wireless router?
Gracias.

if you have the local network and file/folder permissions set up, I don't see the point why this should not be possible. you may have to run a samba server (or similar) if you're operating different OS (like Linux and Win)

No, both are windows.
So, is this what is known as a 'local network'?

I would go as far as saying yes. (somehow I have to overcome that 20 character limit, thus the long answer...)
nevertheless you should check the network privileges to actually get network access.
regards

regards Aha, darn that limit. You know, if you just add a huge space, say, 20 - CurrentText.Length, your post will conform to the rules. It's a sloppy bypass.
I've got network sharing working now. Thanks a bunch, Dormi.

Got a problem, actually. The upstairs computer can see the downstairs computer (listed in the Networks) but downstairs cannot see upstairs. Can't figure out why; I did everthing the same on both computers.. well I think I did.

There are a lot of people having problems connecting XP and Vista to a network, so just search on Google to find a solution, if that is the case.
