Hello,
I keep having issues with installing and/or updating .NET framework versions. I contacted microsoft support and they sent me a dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip, which I ran and then rebooted. I also ran CCleaner to check for registry entries and it found 385 missing dll entries, which I also cleaned up. (I thought the cleanup tool was meant to do that!). I then rebooted again.
As instructed by Microsoft technical support I downloaded .net versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.0SP1, 3.5, 3.5SP1, using the links they provided in the email. I was instructed to install these in order.
So I began with 1.0 and received an error message saying that the installation failed because it is incompatible with a previously installed version of .net. I thought the cleanup tool and CCleaner was meant to get rid of any traces of previous installations...
So then I tried 1.1 and it installed up till the end where it apparently has '0' seconds remaining. This is where it hangs. I've left it for up to 3 hours to see if it was just being slow, but nothing. So I then kill the processes to get rid of the screen because it doesn't let me cancel, reboot and try again. Same thing.
I have also received the error message 1704, saying that a previous installation was suspended. I downloaded a removal tool for this error from CNet and it apparently reported that it was fixed.
I then tried installing 1.0 again and got the same incompatibility message. I then tried 1.1 and it installed much, much faster, but still hangs on that last screen.
I am so fed up with this. I work from home and I have lost several days income trying to fix this. The problems started when I tried to install Microsoft Office 2010 and even that installation won't complete properly, plus my Windows Updates hang. That is how I ended up circling back to .NET Framework issues. I only had 3.0 and 3.5 installed, so the MS tech guys said it is probably missing important parts.
I should also note that I completely disabled Comodo Anit-virus, Firewall and Defence+ before attempting these installs, plus I've even turned off [msi] services in msconfig.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP3.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is preventing me from earning an income.
Cheers
Carrie
