Different encodings available in yahoo mail ?

When I see a received mail, I see a list of encodings in the drop down meny at the bottom right hand side of the screen besides "headers"

Whats these encodings for ? How can I use it ? When I write a new mail,. I dont get this option. So how to use this encoding option ? Is it for incoming mail only ? When shall I use this encoding ?

as you might have noticed, yahoo mail is a webbased application. the webpage itself has an encoding that it uses ... when you now receive mails that have different encodings you could switch the encoding in your 'yahoo-app' to the needed one ... have a look here ...
