Remember, during lighting storms power surges can travel through power lines, phone lines, and also Ethernet lines. If lightning struck near you or struck some power lines that you are hooked up to the spike in electricity could have shot up your Ethernet wire and overloaded your Ethernet card or mother board.
If the power surge was strong enough it could have even melted your Ethernet wires together or melted the insulation surrounding them so they are shorted out.
I would suggest examining every aspect of your network setup. You would need to check the wires, the routers, the wall sockets, the feed lines, the Ethernet cards, the MOBOs and anything else that was connected to the wall.
This should be a good lesson to everyone that proper power protection is important for all of your computer devices and for all connections. If you have a surge strip for your computer but connect directly to the wall with Ethernet cables your machine could still be damaged by a power surge.
