MS Word Convert Document From 2003 to 2007

Dear Experts,
I had created an document in Office 2003, But i couldn't view in Office 2007, What should i do ??

I can see the reverse being an issue as 2003 doesn't support the 2007 format, but there is no reason 2007 could not view a 2003 document.

I had a brief look on the microsoft site and I can't see any reference to this problem. It sounds like something else is going on.

Is there anything special about the document?

IS it true that one canNOT open a Word 97-2003 doc in Word 2007 by default?
Is it true that there is a registry setting that would enable opening old docs?
If no and no, what's the best workaround?

No that is not true. By default you can open any number of files in word 2007. By default Word 2007 is backwards compatible with other word applications.

There is absolutley no reason to touch the registry for this issue. I have not run into a version of 2007 that could not open a document from a previous version of word.

The work around is to start office 2007 and then go to the file menu and select open and then find your .doc file and select it.

The other work around is to download and install open office.

I have what the donor [a textbook company] says are "very old" Word docs [extension as delivered was 2002A, not DOC]. About 100 of 'em.

When I try to open one of the original "2002A" files with Word 2007, the gist of the message is that the registry has been set up "by Microsoft or the network admin" to prevent opening this version of Word document. Few details:

"This error occurs if you try to open a Microsoft Office document and the file type for that document has been blocked by a registry policy setting." See KB article 922850, which takes you to KB 922849. Few details from it:

"To disable this restriction in Word 2007, locate
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Offi ce\12.0\Word\Security\FileOpenBlock [or create it]
- Locate the DWORD value [or create it]. For example change the value of "FilesBeforeVersion" from 1 to 0, you can open files that were saved in earlier file formats. "

I can open the 2002A's in Word 97, save as .DOC, and THEN Word 2007 CAN open them. You'd assume if it can't open a 2002 file, it can't open Word 97, but ............
