Java boolean user answers yes/no

I am working on an assignment for my class (don't worry you're not doing my homework for me). I want to have a method that asks the user a yes/no question specifically "did you pay due?" but the way I set it up I keep getting this error:

Club.java:39: cannot find symbol
symbol : method showConfirmDialog(java.lang.String)
location: class javax.swing.JOptionPane
paid = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog ("Did " + names + " pay dues?")

I can't find anywhere that explains how to use booleans with a yes/no question box. The question needs to be an array and in it's own method. Here is my code:

private static boolean [] getDues(String [] names) {

boolean [] duePoints = new boolean [MAX];

duePoints = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog ("Did " + names + " pay dues?");
if (duePoints == JOptionPane.YES_OPTION)
duePoints = true;
else if (duePoints == JOptionPane.NO_OPTION)
duePoints = false;

return duePoints = true;
}

Can I ask a yes/no question and return true/false using boolean in Java and if so how?

You're missing the parent component when calling the function.
