why is there a warning in this code while we perform addition of NULL to an int ?

int a=9;
a=a+NULL;
printf("%d\n",a);

pointer5.c: In function 'main':
pointer5.c:5:2: warning: assignment makes integer from pointer without a cast [enabled by default]
a=a+NULL;

Null isn't an integer. If you want to set a default it should be 0 not null.
