how to check for existing data by ''MS Access'' programming?

i will be entering some data and which is getting stored in C:
(excel format). i would like to cross verify the data whether it is already stored in the database or not.

For example , if i do enter the same number, it should display - 'The entered detail is already exists'.
and if the entering data is not present in the data base(excel data), then it should allow for new entry.

please help me in resolving this .

Thanks in advance.. :)

You have asked a question in the MS Access forum but it appears you are working in Excel. What do you mean "excel format"? Is the data file an Excel spreadsheet? Are you working in a form within an Excel worksheet? If so, you need to ask this in an Excel forum.

It does seem that your explanation of what you need help with is a little unclear. Please clarify exactly what you're dealing with. How do Access and Excel come into the picture?
